On top of the VX2245wm's clear, crisp 1680 x 1050 resolution, the monitor features Viewsonic's ClearMotiva technology, which enables fast 5ms video response times. Fast response brings new clarity and no annoying ghosting to your HD broadcast-quality videos. The monitor also features Dynamic Structure technology, an innovative liquid crystal composition and pixel matrix system that further accelerate video response for seamless video and intense graphics. Meanwhile, OptiSync digital/analog inputs expand your connectivity. This multi-mode input technology supports both digital (DVI) and analog (VGA) signals for ultimate compatibility with both PCs and Macs, as well as configuration flexibility. You'll also enjoy ultra-high brightness and contrast (280-nit brightness and 700:1 contrast ratio) for rich, detailed images. But seriously, what's so surprising? The thing has a 3 inch sub woofer. I laughed when I read it and again when I heard it. I didn't expect great sound, so I'm not disappointed. Still, the sound is so bad that it knocks a star from my review.
The screen is 22 inches diagonally, but in terms of 'feel' it measure in acres. It's huge. The picture is razor sharp and brilliant. The monitor shell is very elegant with it's high gloss, piano black/satin silver color scheme. The iPod dock and USB hub built into the unit's base eliminate all computer peripheral clutter. The only time you need to touch your computer tower is to feed it disks or to use the power button. The iPod, flash drives, memory cards, headphones, audio input or any USB device can be plugged right into the monitor, giving you more flexibility in where you keep (or hide) your tower. Though I have no use for it, it...Read more 12 of 12 people found the following review helpful: By MacUser "emaven" (midwest) - See all my reviews This review is from: ViewSonic VX2245wm 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Integrated iPod Dock (Electronics) I really like this monitor. It is bright and beautiful. Works great with Mac OS X 10.4.9
It comes with a quick set-up sheet, and that is all you need to see where the various cables go. The Mac recoginizes it instantly. If you want to change anything, the buttons are adequate for using the on screen display without being obtrusive. The manual is on the normal size CD that comes with the display and explains exactly how to change the settings. The iPod dock works with a USB or Firewire iPod as long as you have the doc connector on the bottom of the iPod. The sound is not great, but adequate. You control the sub woofer sound with a small dial on the dock. I keep it at the max as it sounds best there. The actual volume of the speakers is controlled from the sound control on the Mac, either via the keyboard or the icon on the screen. The 4 usb ports allow me to connect all my stuff. Just be sure not to turn off the separate power to the dock and usb...Read more 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful: By Jazzboy (Baltimore) - See all my reviews This review is from: ViewSonic VX2245wm 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor with Integrated iPod Dock (Electronics) I love this thing. The display is excellent. At 22" wide screen you can easily run several programs, or display two full pages of word processing text. I use it for PhotoShop and the colors and resolution are excellent. As a bonus, the base adds card readers and USB ports on the desktop, where you want them. And you can dock an iPod. You can play the iPod through these speakers, but I cannot figure out why you would, unless you did not have iTunes installed (like at work). In that case, a better option would be to install PodPlayer on your iPod and play through the computer speakers. With everything built in (including a microphone), it leaves your real desktop looking very clean. And the unit itself is real nice looking. The speakers are just ok for speech or windows sounds (TV set quality). But if you want to listen to music, you will still need a good pair of high quality speakers. I have yet to hear any monitor with built in speakers sound good for music...Read more |
