In the last fifteen years of computing I have owned many monitors, from KDS to NEC including a Viewsonic, and I have never had to adjust color from one to the next. Currently I use a Samsung and an HP, the HP has digital out the Samsung doesn't. Wanting to upgrade to digital out I looked at the reviews on 4x3 19" monitors and the option to have two computers on one monitor sold me on this Viewsonic.
Out of the box the brightness was way too high and colors were washed out. I spent the better part of an afternoon working on adjusting the color settings not only on the monitor but also on my video card, something I have never had to do before. At the end of the day I was somewhat ready to accept what I had achieved as being close to what I have been looking at daily for over a decade on my old monitors. I have been a fan of Viewsonic monitors for a long time. They are heavy with multiple adjustments. There is not one dead or stuck pexil on this monitor or on another Viewsonic monitor I own. If I decide to get expensive, I buy NEC. But if you want to buy solid product inexpensively, buy Viewsonic.

I returned this monitor without hooking it up because it sits way too high off the desk. The minimum distance from the desk to the bottom of the screen is about 6.5", whereas most monitors can be set to sit 4" to 5" off the desk. The larger a monitor's screen, the lower it needs to sit on the desk so that you don't have to look up at it. These 4:3 ratio monitors are taller than most wide-screen monitors, so you need to get it low on the desk. You can't do that with this monitor.
