ViewSonic VA2323wm 23-Inch 16:9 1080p Digital LCD Monitor

I seldom write reviews, but this monitor is being unfairly trashed and I can't resist...

I spent a lot of time selecting this monitor in Dec 2009. I needed to expand my notebook's desktop so I could see a bunch of eye busting text and graphics all at once. I am a semi-retired techno-savvy software industry vet. And, I am cheap. So I actually first tried a $140 22 inch 1680x1050 AOC monitor. I also looked at a lot of competing products in the under $200 category, including refurbished and open box units. In the end I returned the AOC and decided to buy this value-focused model from a vendor I trust. I have no regrets. None.

I have used the Viewsonic VA2323wm heavily for a solid month, grinding away at computer source code and fussy graphics. I am very happy with the image quality. This monitor is totally well behaved. I've owned several viewsonic monitors over the years and always liked them. This gorgeous new 23 inch widescreen 1080p monitor with speakers replaces a slightly older 20 inch viewsonic that I really liked.
I'm not sure what all to say about this. The 1080p picture is full HD of course. It was easy to set up, it has inputs for both DVI and older VGA cables.
The picture quality is great, nice color, good sharpness.
On screen controls are easy to use.
And I'm not an audiophile or into expensive sound systems, so the built in speakers are just what I need.
The physical characteristics of the monitor are nice too. The stand pops into place easily, the inputs are easy to reach and connect, and the stand has an easy-to-use tilt mechanism.
I can't think of a thing not to like about this.

I've not reviewed a product before, but I had to add my praise to that of others, to offset the neutral and negative reviews. This monitor is absolutely beautiful.

I needed, and love, the widescreen format for my particular use: I'm learning and using a 3D drafting program (SolidWorks) and the widescreen lets me work easily with the built-in tutorials. The lessons appear in the right 1/3 or so of the screen, and I still have plenty of room to work in the remaining window. Beyond the tutorials, SolidWorks and other graphic design programs are menu intensive, and it's great to have plenty of room for toolbars and still have a roomy drawing area.

Look, this is a huge monitor for about 1/20 the price it would have been just a few years ago. I paid 178 on Amazon (Costco wanted 190,) and the next day it was down to 170.
