Comment: As usual, much of a product's appeal will depend on how you make use of it. In this case, I am using it for a home office, connecting to a work laptop . Having two screens to work with multiple documents at once is quite handy. Also, working long periods of time on a lap top monitor alone can get a bit tedious, so having a second, full screen monitor is just the ticket, and this product works fine!

Summary: Unreliable and inexcusable. 2009-08-23
Comment: I installed 45 of these monitors at a public library customer. Within a year of use, the first ones began failing to turn on with the power button blinking erratically. After two years of use, nearly two-thirds of the 45 monitors originally installed have failed with the power on problem. Never have I encountered such an unreliable IT product. Samsung's warranty repair process has been painless though and they offer a 3 month warranty extension to the standard 36 month warranty if the product is registered online.

Comment: I bought this over three years ago at Newegg for about $200, and I've noticed that the prices for this monitor on Amazon are around that figure. That tells you that this is a high-quality monitor despite the very few negative experiences which probably resulted from a bad apple or, more commonly, buyer mishandling.
This monitor has excellent color contrast and brightness. Very vibrant display for a standard VGA monitor. This is the only computer component that I've owned for the past 3 years which I have not upgraded. It has withstood the test of time, running for about 8 hours a day for 3 years. Set-up could not be easier. Just plug 'n play. That's it. Never had one dead pixel. Never had any problems whatsoever with this monitor. Picture remains very crisp and bright after all these years, and I plan on keeping this monitor until it dies - if it ever dies!
I'm convinced that this is a very quality-made product from Samsung, as I would expect something like a monitor to die after 3 years, 8 hours a day continuous use. To my surprise it is as bright as the day that I bought it.

Summary: 50% failure rate in sample space of 4 within 2-years 2009-02-11
Comment: Two 740N failed out of four within two-years. The first one died in less than a year. Therefore, 50% failure rate in our experience. Used in air-conditioned environment with stable power. Not recommended.

Summary: Completely stopped working after 2 yrs!! 2009-01-13
Comment: My monitor also went black after 2 years. We only used this for our computer so it wasn't getting constant use. When the screen went black it wouldn't even stay on long enough to look up a fix. This is very upsetting to me since I read the other post and this is apparently a common problem with Samsung monitors. The reason I am posting today is because our $1600 Samsung LCD TV just went black on us today. Luckily it came back on after unplugging it and then plugging it back in but I'm afraid this will be a problem just like the monitor. We really like this TV but it is only 1 year and 1 week old (which puts it OUT of warranty). Anyway I wondered if anyone else has had issues like this since they originally posted.
