This review is from: NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK-SV 27-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
Test conditions: Snow Leopard 10.6.6 in 64 bit mode on a Mac Pro with NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card using DVI cable, second computer is a Power Mac G4 tower with ADC to DVI connector
Conflict of interest: NEC provided the display for the purpose of the review and then offered to the reviewer at a significant discount from the retail price.
Few photographers or videographers have physical darkrooms these days. Instead, their darkroom exists largely in their computer. This virtual darkroom has two points of visual access: the display and some output mechanism such as a printer or TV screen. But all of the creative work is done through the display, making it the single most important part of the process. It is much more important that having the fastest CPU. With this in mind three years ago, I purchased a NEC announced the LCD2690UWXi, a 25.5" display that was available with its own calibration software (SpectraView II) and a specially calibrated...Read more

This review is from: NEC MultiSync PA271W-BK-SV 27-Inch LCD Monitor (Personal Computers)
I bought this monitor about a month ago and have been using it for 12-14 hours a day, mostly in Blender. It has a fine enough dot pitch to see the edge of meshes compared to the other monitors I had, including an ancient Viewsonic .17 pitch tube that liked to add purple to everything near the bottom right corner.
The colors are great for image editing (or in my case, UV Texturing 3D models). I have also used it to adjust scans and digital camera pictures. I was a little surprise at what was in my digital picture of a GE FB-2 diesel locomotive truck/bogey when I ran auto-adjust in Photoshop. The other monitors never showed the details or hues that this NEC PA271W does...
It is a very bright monitor compared to the other LG and Viewsonic monitors I have but still displays a great picture (tested a couple DVD movies).
I was a little concerned about the speed for games but so far it has been great for me (but I am not a twitch gamer/FPS-gamer nor do I...Read more

I have only used the monitor for a short time, but so far, it works perfectly and looks stunning. I did have some trouble hooking it up to my MacBook Pro (NEC's setup instructions are not particular clear), but after a call to their technical help center, I was referred to the correct adapter and where to order it. The Apple store had sold me an adapter which would not work.
