Nothing is more frustrating, as a photographer, than to bring an image up, adjust the colors and contrast so it looks great, and then find the printed image doesn't match what you see on the monitor-it's darker, or greener, or less contrast, etc. That was my situation with a Dell Ultrasharp monitor calibrated with a Spyder2 Pro, using Adobe CS4. Switched to the NEC SV and everything fell into place. Now my prints match exactly what I see on the monitor.
Color calibration is a breeze-load the SpectraView II software, plug in the supplied calibrator to a USB port, drape it over the monitor, and press calibrate. That's it-the rest is done automatically. Takes about 10 minutes. The monitor itself is well-built, with a good solid base; easy to adjust height or rotate to portrait. It is easy to calibrate, is very sharp and high res/wide gamut. I love the height and angle adjustability. Better than Apple Cinema display for graphics use. 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Multisync LCD2690WUXi2-BK with SV Calibration Sensor and Software (Electronics) Obviously you should only be considering this if you need accurate color calibration between the screen and either printed or sent-to-others output. If you already own a good quality monitor, I'd suggest you try one of the basic color calibration setups (such as Spyder 3 Elite) before investing in this monitor and calibrator setup. This works better for sure than the add-on setups, but there's a cost (naturally).
If you're starting a new computer setup that will need accurate color calibration, then I'd recommend this as an all-in-one solution. It's quick (about ten minutes) and seems to work quite well. You can compare the monitor's other specifications, they're quite good, but you can get the same specs (minus the calibration) for less money. |
