It should be obvious that the aspect ratio of this monitor is 4:3, the same as analog television. This monitor is intended for people who prefer 4:3 and/or for people with high-resolution needs, e.g. medical personnel. This monitor is much taller than a 20" widescreen; my measurements for the actual screen (excluding frame) are 16 1/8" (w) x 12 1/8" (h). The monitor is of high quality, both in design and construction. There are a few comparable monitors which are slightly bigger, e.g. 21-22", but they cost around $800. This LG model provides good bang for the buck.
