Choosing a Monitor, October 25, 2010

While doing research work at a university I had this 17" Dell Ultrasharp monitor at my work station. Set at 1024 x 768 it displays a full web page (L to R ) without having to move your head around the screen. At one time I was given the larger 19" Ultrasharp but returned it to our IT guy. It was not nearly as clear or sharp as the 17". While the 19" does have better specs., I was constantly adjusting it and never did get it right. I ask for the 17" to be returned. Another beauty of this monitor and its larger cousins are the USB ports located on the side of the monitor its self. This comes in really handy when using flash drives since you won't have to get down and plug them into the tower; simply plug them into the side of the monitor.

The moral of this story is that no matter what monitor you buy, work with it first to see how it works for your particular vision. Not everyone sees a monitor equally. What is sharp and clear for you may be off for another. For me...Read more
