This review is from: ASUS VW224U 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (Electronics) I bought this panel as a gift, replacing my mother-in-law's old 17" CRT. She loves it, but the monitor isn't perfect.
Pro: - The screen is large, and the relatively low resolution (1680 x 1050) means that it is easier for her to see details, without resorting to increasing font size/zoom. - It's an LCD, so is a lot easier on her eyes than the old CRT was, and is also light enough for her to move when she needs to. - Video looked good. - Response time is good enough that we didn't see any ghosting, but we didn't try much in the way of a gaming. - No dead pixels. Monitor has only seen maybe 7 hours of use thus far. Con: - The panel's uniformity was mediocre to poor, with the lower left noticeably darker (and redder) than the rest of the panel. - The stand doesn't really adjust, so you may need something to raise the monitor depending on your setup. - It's a TN panel, so viewing angle is tight, but not a...Read more 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: By MiddleAgedGamer "TheFamilyMan" (CA, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ASUS VW224U 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (Electronics) Excellent value in a no nonsense budget high performance gaming monitor. Picture is sharp and clear with no noticeable ghosting or smearing when playing fast action games. Colors seem accurate for what I need, though for serious photo work I cannot say it's that accurate. It does have a little backlight bleeding around the edges that usually is not noticeable. The base is decently solid and the monitor doesn't wobble at all unless it's bumped. The built in speaks are best left unused, though they may emit a buzz that can be eliminated by setting their volume to zero. My only complaint is that mine came with one black dead pixel near the upper right corner; I let it be since I usually don't notice it. The Asus warranty considers a monitor defective if it has 5 black deads or 3 bright deads. If mine was in the center I'd definitely have looked into returning it to Amazon. Usually I'd buy a monitor from a local store, but no store in my area stocks this particular Asus model...Read more 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful: By Bill Bryant "BB" (Texas) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ASUS VW224U 22-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (Electronics) I bought this to replace a 17" Dell monitor that worked fine, but just didn't have the size or brightness for my needs. I bought this monitor because I like ASUS products, there was a DVI port, and there are built-in speakers. I don't listen to much music on my computer, so sound quality was not a big deal, but saving desk space by incorporating speakers into the monitor was a big deal. The monitor works perfectly right out of the box. I tweaked nothing, just hooked it up and it worked fabulously. There was a rebate going on for the month of December that featured $20 back from ASUS, so my delivered cost will end up being $139. Can't beat that anywhere! |
