Couldn't find anything but widescreen monitors in any of the local stores. I ordered this monitor and 7 days later received it via Fedex (free shipping), plugged it in and it works fine without adjustment or software changes. Oh, the joy of a 4:3 monitor for reading!

It is hard to find an LCD monitor in standard 4:3 resolution. I have poor vision and wanted a replacement for my CRT monitor. Widescreens actually have less screen area than a standard monitor of the same measurement and you need to get a larger one to get an equivalent screen height. Larger screens have higher resolution, so everything is smaller and can be harder to see. If you run a lower than native resolution, they use interpolation, so the graphics are not as good. The 19" Asus is very sharp and clear. It was advertised as being 1024x768, but the native resolution is actually 1280x1024. I was concerned about that, but I am currently running it and have no problem seeing it. Everything is about the same size as 1024x768 was on my old 17" CRT, but I have a lot more vertical screen area for displaying web pages. My previous LCD monitor from Samsung came to its life's end and I needed a new one, which should also be a narrowscreen. Unfortunately and apparently there's no monitor within this specification larger than 19 inches. So I got this ASUS one, and it has been proving to be a very good one. For sure it's way better than my previous one. I just expected that it'd had a better contrast, considering the specifications presented. Other than that I really liked it, it has solid, firm base, the height is just perfect for me/my desk (fortunately, as it has no height adjustment) and its mate black frame is perfect and very low profile, specially in the dark.
