Summary: Not a bad monitor 2008-10-08
Comment: Works well enough, most of the time. This is an unremarkable LCD monitor, it's reliable enough, hasn't failed in the six months I have had it.
I use it with an HP8510w laptop running Windows XP SP 3 most of the time, and with an HP desktop running Debian Linux the rest.
With Debian everything works fine, but if I take the laptop, which has a native screen resolution of 1920x1200 out of the docking station and use its own screen I have endless problems when I dock the system again.
Now it's not the monitor's problem that the laptop/XP combination takes minutes to decide that it needs to switch to 1680x1050 at 60 Hz, but Debian manages the same thing in seconds. Anyway, the problem is that unless you feed this monitor at its rated resolution in goes to sleep after a few minutes. It isn't that it can't show you 1600x1200, which is what the laptop defaults to on the external connector of the docking station, it is just that it doesn't want to. So after a while it says "monitor going to sleep" and switches off.
I'd like a few words with the self satisfied cretin at HP that decided it shouldn't display anything except the native resolution for more than a couple of minutes. This is extremely irritating, which is why I'm writing this review after all.
